Two West Rutland teenagers answered to felony drug charges on Monday after police say they found almost a pound of marijuana in their car.

Thomas J. Rougier, 19, and Chrystal M. Cioffi, 19, pleaded innocent in Rutland District Court to felony counts of marijuana possession and Rougier also pleaded innocent to a misdemeanor charge of violating conditions of release.

Bail was set at $5,000 for Cioffi while no bail was set for Rougier.

Rougier and Cioffi were arrested after a traffic stop on Spellman Terrace in Rutland. During the stop, state police Trooper Joseph Duca said he could smell marijuana in the car. After gaining consent to search the vehicle, Duca said police found a gallon-sized Ziploc bag full of marijuana on the passenger's side of the vehicle.

Oh, I missed this - "Rougier also pleaded innocent to a misdemeanor charge of violating conditions of release."

Must be an upstanding citizen?

What's the time waste? This was a gimme.... the low hanging fruit of the Forrest Gumps of crime.

These two braintrusts driving with a pound of pot in passenger compartment of the car?

If I make liquor and sell it, it's a crime.

I imagine they were planning on selling it, so even if possesion were legal, they'd still be breaking the law.

Another waste of time. Its way past time to legalize and tax it. Stop making criminals out of 25% of the population.
