WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — A Rutland man already awaiting trial for the August stick-up of a convenience store in Ludlow is now being sought as a fugitive by New York authorities who believe he robbed a gas station in their state just days before the Vermont crime occurred.
Glen Perry, 26, who attended Mill River Union High School and in recent years has lived in East Wallingford, Mount Holly, Clarendon Springs and, most recently, Rutland, was brought back into White River Junction District Court on Wednesday afternoon where he denied the new fugitive complaint.
Perry has been held at the Springfield jail since early February, when he was arrested on a felony assault and robbery charge right as he was leaving the Rutland District Court, where he had pleaded innocent to charges of driving with a suspended license.
The Cumberland Farms store on Main Street in Ludlow was held up at 2:30 a.m. Aug. 31 by a man who pointed a handgun at the clerk and demanded cash. Police said the bandit made off with $572 and a pack of cigarettes.
The clerk later identified Perry as the suspect after repeatedly picking out his image from a series of photo lineups, police said.
On Monday, authorities from New York contacted the Vermont State Police saying they believed Perry was one of two men who robbed a Hess gas station in the Saratoga County town of Halfmoon shortly before midnight on Aug. 28.
The court in Halfmoon has issued an arrest warrant for Perry charging him with first-degree robbery and alleging that Perry was the getaway driver for Brennan Bigelow, who allegedly displayed a black semi-automatic pistol to the clerk at the station before making off with $84 and fleeing down Route 9.
Perry faces potential maximum sentences of up to 10 years for the Vermont robbery and up to an additional 5 to 25 years for the New York robbery.
Perry's criminal record lists him as "Brady disqualified," a federal designation which means that — because of his five previous felony convictions, including two for escape – he is not supposed to have or use any firearms. If he were to be convicted of either of the two gun-related state-level crimes that are now pending against him, Perry would then likely face an additional federal charge of being a felon in possession of a handgun.
