JAMAICA, Vt. — Lorraine A. Stark, 89, of Water Street, died Friday, March 12, 2010, after residing in Pine Heights of Brattleboro for two years.
Lorraine was born on August 4, 1920, daughter of Clarence and Marjorie (Slader) Peirce, and graduated from Leland and Gray Seminary in 1939. Her first marriage to Russell O'Brien ended in divorce. She married Herb Stark of Jamaica on Dec. 1, 1951, and he died on March 13, 1998, after 47 years of marriage.
She is survived by sons, Roland O'Brien and wife Kathleen of Florida and the Islands of the Caribbean, Clinton O'Brien and wife Kelly of Weathersfield, Vt., and Robert O'Brien and wife Norma of Jamaica, Vt. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; and her daughter, Sharon Griffin of Rutland, who died on Oct. 22, 2009. She was a lifelong member of the Jamaica Community Church and choir and also managed their annual rummage sale for many years.
Lorraine was a homemaker and worked in the Jamaica Grade School hot lunch program for awhile. She and her husband, Herbie, enjoyed their many truck camper trips throughout the states of Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.
There will be a memorial service and burial at a later date in the spring. Anyone wishing to make donations in her memory may do so by sending them to the Jamaica Community Church, Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend, in care of Dr. Shafer, or the Brattleboro Area Hospice.
