GUILDHALL - A Brighton woman is asking a court to prevent her town from referring to a Town Meeting Day vote in favor of selling a small airport to a developer.
Jennifer Hanlon says the 326 to 74 vote in favor of a nonbinding referendum to sell the John Boylan Airport so it could be used as part of a job-creating wood chip project violated Vermont's open meeting laws.
The Vermont Legislature is considering a bill to sell the airport to a company that would use it as part of an operation to produce wood-pellet fuel, possibly creating more than $150 jobs in the economically challenged Northeast Kingdom.
The Caledonian Record says Brighton officials have not answered Hanlon's lawsuit.
