WEATHERSFIELD — A raccoon that got into a fight with a dog has tested positive for rabies.
On Thursday, Dr. Robert Johnson with the Department of Health confirmed a raccoon was rabid when it had an altercation with a dog on Little Canada Road. The dog's owner killed the raccoon, whose body was transported to Waterbury for tests.
The dog's rabies vaccination was current but a booster shot was administered as a precaution.
Officials urge pet owners to get their animals vaccinated and to avoid leaving food outside to attract wildlife.
Anyone who sees a wild animal that is exhibiting unusual behavior should call the Rabies Hotline at (800) 4-RABIES.2 Comments -
