Ferries strained by bridge replacementAssociated Press | June 17,2010
CHARLOTTE — The missing Lake Champlain Bridge between Vermont and New York is putting strains on ferry service elsewhere on the lake.
One of the ferries used by the Lake Champlain Transportation Co., is in dry dock for repairs and so only one boat is making the 20-minute trip between Charlotte, Vt., and Essex, N.Y.
Ferry Transportation Manager Heather Stewart tells the Burlington Free Press there are usually two boats making the crossing there.
But two ferries are now making the run from Addison to Crown Point, N.Y., to replace a bridge that was closed last year. A new bridge is under construction.
Stewart says that as soon as repairs are completed on the ferry Governor Aiken it will be put into service.
