NEWPORT — A Vermont man whose toddler ingested methadone has been given a suspended jail term.
Thirty-four-year-old Nathaniel Stahl, of Marshfield, was sentenced Wednesday to 6 to 12 months in jail — all suspended — and ordered to serve 30 days on furlough and community service.
He pleaded no contest to child endangerment.
Stahl and his wife took their 13-month-old son to the hospital on three occasions in April, the last time with him listless, pale and not breathing.
A test showed methadone in his system, which police believe had either been fed to him or left around the house and accidentally eaten.
