JAMAICA – A motorcyclist headed to this weekend’s BMW Rider’s Association Rally in Pownal was involved in a collision with a car Friday morning on Route 30 right in the heart of Jamaica village.
The motorcyclist, whose identity was not immediately available, was initially reported aslying in the roadway immediately following the crash at 10:20 a.m. but Jamaica Fire Chief Joel Beckwith said the fact that he was eventually transported to Grace Cottage Hospital in Townsend by a Rescue Inc. ambulance was largely precautionary.
“Hopefully there weren’t any serious injuries at all,” Beckwith said Friday afternoon, noting, “It was right in the center of town, right in the middle of the street.”
The BMW motorcycle, which had Maryland plates, was traveling west along the scenic route toward Pownal when a car driven by a local resident came to an abrupt halt in front of it, Beckwith said, adding that there was some talk at the scene that the car may have stopped for a pedestrian but he said any formal determination would be carried out by the Vermont State Police which had a trooper respond from Brattleboro to conduct an investigation.
“The car received a dent in the rear hatch and on the motorcycle just the front wheel and the steering were affected but it’s not drivable,” Beckwith said.
