BENNINGTON — Police in Bennington have charged two men with cashing a state Department of Corrections check that was supposed to go to transitional housing for one of them.
Thirty-seven-year Raymond Campbell and 36-year-old Billy J. Stanley entered not guilty pleas Monday in criminal court in Bennington. Campbell is charged with forgery, Stanley with being an accessory.
Police Detective David Rowland said a check for $625 was mailed to Stanley so he could give it to a landlord for transitional housing, but it went to his old address. Campbell allegedly cashed it and the two later agreed to split the money.
