    October 01,2011

MONTPELIER— The Federal Emergency Management Agency is urging Vermonters affected by flooding caused by Tropical Storm Irene to register for assistance.

FEMA spokesman Victor Inge says just under 6,000 people have registered so far, but there are probably others yet to do so. The most registrations have come from Windsor, Windham and Washington counties.

So far, FEMA has distributed about $20 million in aid and of that 123 people have qualified for the maximum FEMA benefit of $30,200.

Additional assistance could be available through the Small Business Association.

People who would like to register can call 1-800-621-3362 or go to the website, www.disasterassistance.gov . They can also visit assistance offices across the state.

The deadline for individuals seeking individual assistance is Oct. 31.
