Tuition is rising at Vermont State Colleges.

The board of trustees voted Thursday to raise tuition by 4 percent in each of the next two academic years.

The increase will cover costs and start to address long-term needs.

Chancellor Tim Donovan said the increases are modest compared to other state college systems while pointing out that Vermont State Colleges gets a relatively low level of public funding.
