BENNINGTON — A letter sent to parents on Monday announced that Monument Elementary School principal Brian Crego had been suspended with pay although an education official said it has nothing to do with the charges for possession of child pornography brought against a teacher at the school.
The letter, which doesn’t mention Crego by name, said that Donna Cauley, an assistant principal who had been at Bennington Elementary School, had been assigned to Monument as acting administrator until further notice.
There are three elementary schools in Bennington, Bennington, Monument and Molly Stark.
Catherine McClure, superintendent of the Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union, said she couldn’t provide any further information about Crego’s suspension but said she thought it was important that people know it had nothing to do with the allegations against John Dockum.
Dockum, who taught fifth grade at Monument, is facing five felony charges of possession of child pornography for which he was arraigned on Feb. 6 in Bennington criminal court.
Crego was in his first year as principal of Monument.2 CommentsMORE IN This Just InSuspicious fire in Springfield Friday.
