Man faces charges after incident

BERLIN — A Berlin man is facing two criminal charges stemming from an encounter with police at a Barre-Montpelier Road farm stand over the weekend.
John Schumann, 30, was cited for resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance after he was confronted by police outside Legare’s Farm Market on Saturday.
Police did not provide a time of the alleged incident, but said they were responding to a report of a man “trying to sell drugs.”
When they arrived police said they found an allegedly intoxicated Schumann holding a beer. After questioning Schumann and allegedly finding an undisclosed controlled substance in his hand police said Schumann resisted arrest, but was ultimately taken into custody.
He is scheduled to be arraigned on charges stemming from the incident on Aug. 2 at the criminal courthouse in Barre.
