PAWLET — Robert Randall “Bob” Daring, 87, died June 22, 2012, at his home.
He was born Aug. 29, 1924, in Schenectady, N.Y.
In World War II, he served as a corporal in the U.S. Army 78th “Lightning” Division, participating in the Battle for the Remagen Bridge and Battle of the Bulge.
Mr. Daring graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1954 and then entered the General Electric Management Training Program.
He retired in 1986 from General Electric after 26 years as a manager of metal manufacturing and then volunteered as a guardian ad litem with Bennington County Family Court.
Several years ago, he received a commendation from then-Secretary of State Deborah Markowitz for his 20-years’ service to the town of Pawlet, where he served on the planning commission and the zoning board of adjustment.
Mr. Daring was a member of First Congregational Church of Manchester and Granville (N.Y.) Rotary Club, an elder in the Presbyterian Church and a volunteer at the library and food pantry in Pawlet.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Virginia; a son, K. Mason Daring of Marblehead, Mass.; a daughter, Karin Brandewie of The Woodlands, Texas; nine grandchildren and seven great-granddaughters.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Kristin.
The celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 1, at First Congregational Church of Manchester.
