BRADFORD — A Vermont state trooper who fired a Taser at a Thetford man, who died after being hit, has returned to active duty.
A state police spokeswoman said Trooper David Shaffer was placed on paid leave for three days after the death of 39-year-old Macadam Mason on June 20.
Spokeswoman Stephanie Dasaro said police are still investigating the death and will send their findings to the county state’s attorney and Vermont attorney general.
Police said the exact cause of death has not been determined. Toxicology tests are pending.
Police said Mason, who was unarmed, was acting aggressively and refusing to lie on the ground when he was shot in the chest with the Taser.
Mason’s girlfriend and her son dispute that Mason shouted “aggressively” at the trooper.
