Former UVM Extension worker sentenced
July 15,2012
NEWPORT — A former University of Vermont Extension worker has been sentenced to serve a month in prison after pleading guilty to embezzling nearly $46,000 from the organization over five years.
Celine Bernier of Newport will serve 60 days of home confinement following her prison term.
The Caledonian Record reports (http://bit.ly/SoDigd) Bernier’s attorney, Jill Jourdan, said Bernier cashed in her retirement to pay UVM back and she’s remorseful at having betrayed the trust and confidence of her fellow employees at a job she held for nearly 26 years.
The judge ordered that Bernier cannot hold credit cards or work in any position where she handles money.
