PLYMOUTH — A Hawk Resort groundskeeper who was doing repair work on a floating trampoline on Amherst Lake in central Vermont has died.
Vermont State Police say Michael Bivins, 48, of Bridgewater Corners was fixing the trampoline Sunday, as he has done numerous times before, when he was spotted thrashing about in the water. Someone called 911 and an ambulance arrived and took Bivins to Springfield Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police believe the boat Bivins took out to the trampoline floated away and while he was trying to retrieve it, he apparently drowned or suffered some medical problem. Police say he was an experienced swimmer.
No foul play is suspected. An autopsy was scheduled for today.
