SHAFTSBURY — The Vermont State Police at the Shaftsbury barracks are investigating two reports from two businesses, one in Shaftsbury and one in Dorset, that allege items were stolen earlier this week from the respective sites.

In a press release, Trooper Lauren Ronan said that an employee of Clearbrook Farm in Shaftsbury reported on Thursday that about $500 in diesel fuel was stolen out of a large tank on the property.

The employee said the theft was discovered when staff members realized the amount gone from the tank did not match the farm’s normal usage.

Police believe the fuel was taken between July 18 and 26.

In a separate press release, Ronan said that on Friday around 9:30 a.m. police were notified of a larceny that occurred at the Vermont Summer Festival horse show in Dorset.

An employee of Beval Saddlery Company told police a large amount of merchandise was taken from their temporary store at the horse show sometime after 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to the employee, more than 50 Beval shirts, valued at about $5,000, were stolen. The employee said she realized the shirts were missing at 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday.

The Vermont State Police are investigating both incidents.
