BRATTLEBORO — A Braintree man was arrested on Friday after police said he drove more than 80 miles per hour through a work zone on Interstate 91 in Brattleboro around 3:45 p.m.

Anthony Keller, 73, of Braintree, was cited for careless and negligent operation, according to a press release from Senior Trooper Sgt. Michael Roj of the Vermont State Police’s Brattleboro barracks.

Roj said he was one of the troopers with the state police traffic operations section conducting speed enforcement operations on I-91 in Brattleboro on Friday when he saw Keller driving into a bridge construction work zone.

According to Roj, the speed limit was reduced from 65 miles per hour to 50 miles per hour but with the use of his cruiser’s radar, Roj was able to clock Keller’s Subaru station wagon at 82 miles per hour as it entered the work zone.

After Roj initiated a traffic stop, Keller was arrested because of the high speed at which he had been driving into a congested work area. Keller was processed at the state police barracks in Brattleboro and released on a citation to appear in Windham criminal court on Aug. 28.
