Virginia Frances Bellomo, 92, of Rutland, Vermont, passed on to her reward on August 14, 2012, at home, surrounded by her loved ones, having been lovingly cared for in her last days by her family.

She was born to Pietro and Maria Mattea (Romano) Rizziere in Rutland as the fourth child in a family of eight. She grew up during the Great Depression as a proud and determined woman with a nurturing and kind soul. Her greatest joy was to look after and keep track of her extended family.

She graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy in 1938, attended Rutland Business College and worked for Central Vermont Public Service for a number of years before training in Boston as a cosmetologist. She returned to Rutland to practice her trade and to be near her family.

Together with her husband, Anthony Bellomo, she worked in their beauty salon and helped to run a Rexall Pharmacy until his death when their children were small. She continued to run her shop while maintaining a home for her children and was a considered a second mother to all their friends. She proudly served her clients well into her 80s.

She leaves her son, Anthony M. Bellomo and wife Stephanie Bellomo, M.D.; daughter Ann Marie Wilson and husband Wayne Wilson and their daughter, Matia Lee Wilson; her sisters, Josephine Listorti, Mary Margo, Laura Gilligan and Joanie D’Orazio, sister-in-law Barbara Rizziere, and their families; and special family friend, Michael Finn. She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Paul and Henry “Sam” Rizziere; and sister Carmel Conrad.

Visiting hours will be at Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland on Friday the 17th between the hours of 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Christ the King Church on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. followed by interment in Calvary Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held for family and friends after burial.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rutland Area Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice, PO Box 787, Rutland, VT 05702; or to the Christ the King School Scholarship Fund, 60 South Main St., Rutland, VT 05701; or the Mount St. Joseph Development Fund.
