Couple facing hundreds of charges

A husband and wife from Ludlow arrested earlier this summer for allegedly exploiting vulnerable adults are now back behind bars after they were arrested Tuesday on more than 200 charges each, according to police.

Ludlow Police said Krista and Richard Hudson were both being held at the Springfield prison for lack of $75,000 bail. They are both set to be arraigned today in criminal court in White River Junction.

Police said Krista Hudson was charged Tuesday with 220 counts of domestic assault, two counts of sale of a narcotic, as well as single counts of contributing to juvenile delinquency, second-degree unlawful restraint and extortion.

Richard Hudson was charged Tuesday with 150 counts of cruelty by a person having custody of another, 50 counts of cruelty to a child under 10, as well as single counts of second-degree unlawful restraint, extortion and selling a depressant, stimulant or narcotic.

Police said the charges against the couple stem from incidents involving two children over a period of four years.

No other information was available Tuesday night.

The Hudsons were initially arrested earlier this summer on 18 charges, but only three — aggravated domestic assault, aggravated domestic assault with a weapon and false pretense — survived to their arraignment.

Police said the latest charges stem from an investigation that has been ongoing for more than five months. Investigators from the state Attorney General’s Office are assisting the Ludlow Police Department in the investigation.
