Police: Woman crashed to avoid moose
August 25,2012
WOODFORD — Police say a Florida woman was not hurt in a crash she told them was caused by her efforts to avoid a moose which ran out into the road on Thursday morning.
Karen Florio, 67, of Jacksonville, Fla., was driving her 2011 Honda Odyssey on Route 9 in Woodford approaching Harbour Road around 7 a.m., according to a press release sent by Trooper James Wright of the Vermont State Police barracks in Shaftsbury.
Florio told police a moose came out of the woods and ran across the road in front of her minivan. She said she swerved to avoid the moose but ran off the roadway and hit a steel mailbox along the driveway of a Route 9 home.
Wright said neither Florio nor the moose were injured but Florio’s Odyssey sustained extensive front end damage.
