Barbara L. Piekarski

PERU, Vt. — Barbara L. Piekarski, 55, of Peru, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at home.

She was born in Canton, Ohio, on April 28, 1957, daughter of Harry and Joan (Duplin) Fricke. She was raised in Moorestown, N.J., and attended schools there. After moving to Peru in 1989, she and her husband, Henry, worked side by side in various restaurants in the area, most recently at the Organic Pizza Co. at Stratton Mountain.

An avid gardener, she loved birds, especially hummingbirds. Barbara and her husband also enjoyed camping and traveling together, and her most recent passion was riding her new Harley motorcycle.

Survivors include her husband of 22 years, Henry H. Piekarski Jr.; her mother, Joan Fricke of Kennebunk, Maine; a sister, Elizabeth Cantera of Maine; two brothers, David Fricke of New Jersey and Michael Fricke of Florida; her stepmother, Ellie Fricke of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves her cat, Lucky, and was predeceased by her cat, Wally.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at 12 noon at the Peru Congregational Church. There are no visiting hours.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Vermont-New Hampshire Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 21 Bonnet St., PO Box 2496, Manchester Center, VT 05255.
