    UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Joseph Lawrence Barcello, 87, of Uncasville, Conn., and formerly of Ludlow, Vt., leaves behind a large and loving family and passed away on Sept. 6, 2012, at New London Rehab and Care while in the care of Hospice.

    Joe was born on April 9, 1925, to Joseph and Mary Petruzzi Barcello and was married to Angelina Moccia Barcello for 62 years. Together they raised their family in Stamford, Conn.

    Joe studied printing at Wright Technical School in Stamford and eventually became a lithographic cameraman for Graphic Color Plate in Stamford. Career highpoints included working on the color separation for Time magazine’s cover of Neil Armstrong’s first walk on the moon and National Geographic magazine chose him to work on their projects.

    He and his wife lived out a life-long dream and moved to Vermont and opened a guest house that he named Jewell Brook Farm for guests participating in retreats at the Weston Priory. He raised sheep and became a part of the extended Weston Priory community where he was the assistant guest master.

    Joe battled and beat cancer and then became inspired, by the ministering offered him, to become a chaplain at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and Lawrence-Memorial Hospital in New London, Conn.

    He had a lifelong passion for the arts, especially Italian opera and could name an aria after hearing a few bars. He was always ahead of the curve in physical fitness, which was a wonderful example for his children and extended family members. He was a gentleman and a gentle man.

    His parents and brother Lawrence predeceased him. Survivors include his wife Angie of Uncasville, and brother Rudolph J. of Middletown. Joe is also survived by his children, Joseph C. Barcello and wife Kathleen of Stamford, Marianne Dastoli and husband Joseph of Bluffton, S.C., Clare Evento and husband Nicholas of Waterford, Lawrence Barcello and wife Kimberly of Middletown, Lorraine Lorusso and husband Michael of Norwalk, and Angela Zolluccio and husband Jeff of Stamford.

    Grandchildren are: Joseph J. Barcello and his wife Catherine, Krista Spencer and her husband Eric, Michael Dastoli, Dylan Evento and his wife Christina, Lawrence Barcello, Matthew Barcello and his wife Pamela, Marisa Zou and her husband Shan, Matthew Dragone, Michael Lorusso, Joseph Lorusso, Jenna Zolluccio, Lauren Zolluccio, Alexander Barcello, Evan Barcello and Jeffrey Zolluccio.

    Great-grandchildren are: Savanna Evento, Joseph E. Barcello, Mackenzie Evento, Elizabeth Barcello, Mason Evento, Mason Dragone and Vincent Spencer.

    Calling hours will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2012. at Sacred Heart Church 37 Schuyler Ave., Stamford, Conn., with a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 5 p.m. Interment will be held in the Weston Priory Cemetery, Weston, Vt. on a day and time to be scheduled.
