In my mind I can see a clever enemy finding an American publicity-hungry dupe and encouraging him to create the video vilifying the Prophet Muhammad. The next step would be to arouse a religious backlash to encourage a terrible result for our world.

I applaud the government leaders of countries who are trying to keep sane and positive voices heard. Free speech was never meant to include a mischief-making cry of “fire” in a crowded building. The video maker should be identified and publicly punished.

I applaud President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for carefully chosen words and level heads in dealing with a dangerous situation.

I deplore Mitt Romney’s remarks accusing our president of acting “desperate” and “offensive.”

I am terror-stricken at what Romney would have done in a similar situation.

I have been a 60-year Republican town committee active member.

    I no longer am one.
