    Mugging attempt

    near parking deck

    Staff report

Rutland Police are investigating a reported attempted robbery on the sidewalk outside the parking deck in downtown Rutland.

Police were called to the West Street entrance of the deck Thursday night by Jay Lizotte, 27, of Rutland who said he was approached by two men who demanded he empty his pockets, according to police Sgt. John Sly.

When Lizotte refused, he said one of the men punched him and he returned the blow. The two men then reportedly fled on foot.

The men are both described as being in their early to mid-20s and were both wearing New York Yankees caps, Sly said. No other description of the reported muggers was available.
