I am a graduate of Green Mountain College, and I was appalled to read about the school’s decision to slaughter the oxen, Lou and Bill, and their stubborn refusal to reconsider in spite of substantial public opinion and specific offers to save them. I would suggest that those who disapprove of the decision permanently refrain from making any contribution to the college or supporting it in any way. If solicited, just tell them you will send the money to VINE or some other organization in memory of Lou and Bill (if they die) or simply use it to feed your own animals.

Remember that an apology somewhere down the road is worthless if the oxen are already dead. Those who support the slaughter can support the college with their money. Those who find Green Mountain totally out of touch with their personal values, as I do, can make sure their money and their business go elsewhere.
