BEVERLY HILLS, Fla. — Chester P. Scott Jr., 81, born June 16, 1931, in Massachusetts, passed away October 27, 2012.

He was an ardent Republican who served as a Vermont State Representative and State Senator for many years. He started his political career as a selectman for the town of Springfield, Vt., where he was CEO of Bryant Grinder, a manufacturing company.

As a state legislator, he supported hydro-power, small business and conservationism. He was most proud of the legislation he championed that permitted the use of crossbows by disabled bow-hunters.

He loved the great outdoors where he spent many days with his family and friends.

After retirement, he moved to Florida where he became a volunteer member of the Beverly Hills Surveillance Unit protecting his community. He also volunteered at the Homosassa Wildlife Refuge as treasurer, guide boat operator and wild bird lecturer. He was especially fond of the owls and as a lecturer, he would educate school children about owls, hawks and wildlife.

During his retirement, he spent summers at his beloved camp, Gremlin Cove, on Ricker Pond in Groton, Vt., and winters in Beverly Hills, Fla.

He loved music and was a talented accordion player. He gave his talent freely to senior centers and nursing homes. Often, he could be found on his porch playing accordion into the evening, the music drifting out over the waters of Ricker Pond.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Willo; his children, Donna Parfitt, Chester P. Scott III (Buddy), William Scott (Jim) and Angela Scott (Lou-Ann); four grandsons, a granddaughter and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by one son, Daniel Lee.

There will be a private memorial at a later date.

Letters of condolence may be sent to Willo Scott, 15 Old Academy St., Suite 206, Fairfax, VT 05454.
