Mass. fugitive arrested in Rutland
A Massachusetts man wanted for a series of violent crimes in his home state was found and arrested in Rutland on Wednesday, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
Stephen Rivest, 31, of Chicopee, Mass., is wanted on charges of kidnapping, assault and battery, burglary and witness intimidation.
The combined efforts of the Marshals Service’s Vermont Violent Offender Task Force, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Rutland Police, Rutland County Sheriff’s Department and Vermont State Police, tracked Rivest to the city where he was found hiding in a closet inside a home on Meadow Street Thursday afternoon, according to state police.
Rivest was jailed Wednesday on $150,000 bail.
He is expected to appear in Rutland criminal court today to answer to a fugitive from justice charge.
