    BALTIMORE — Catherine R. Metcalf, 87, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at Springfield Health & Rehabilitation Center.

    She was born July 26, 1925, in Springfield, the daughter of George H. and Catherine L. (Bingham) Cook.

    She graduated from Springfield High School.

    On Oct. 25, 1943, she married Robert F. Metcalf in Putney.

    Mrs. Metcalf was employed at Springfield Bakery, Snow White Laundry, Vermont Research, and retired from Precision Assembly in 1990. For many years, she made and sold Christmas wreaths during the holidays.

    She was a 4-H leader and a member of North Springfield Baptist Church.

    She enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking, gardening, camping, fishing, playing piano and traveling, including cross-country via Amtrak.

    Survivors include eight children, Sharon Bruce, Robert, both of Baltimore, Douglas of Weathersfield, Diane Moulton, Scott, Sherman, all of Springfield, Barry of Acworth, N.H., and Richard of Chester; 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

    Mrs. Metcalf was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra Metcalf; and four siblings, Alice Kendall, Hazel Bingham, Pearl and Charles Cook.

    Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.

    The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the funeral home and officiated by the Rev. George Keeler, pastor of North Springfield Baptist Church.

    Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in North Springfield.
