Yankee protest planned for Saturday in MontpelierSTAFF REPORT | November 16,2012MONTPELIER — Vermonters will gather in the Capital City this weekend to voice their opposition to the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant.
The rally will start at City Hall at 12:30 p.m. Those attending will then march down State Street at 1 p.m. to the Statehouse.
Speakers will include Johanna Miller from the Vermont Natural Resources Council, Liz Edsell of the Vermont Public Interest Research Group and Chris Williams of the Vermont Yankee Decommissioning Alliance and the Vermont Citizens Action Network. State Senator Anthony Pollina is also expected to lead a delegation of progressive legislators from the Statehouse to the rally.
Debra Stoleroff, a member of the Vermont Yankee Decommissioning Alliance, said she hopes to have around 200 people attend the rally.
“We’re showing the Public Service Board and the Legislature that Vermont citizens are still concerned about Vermont Yankee,” she said.
She said the rally is being held to encourage Vermonters to attend the public hearings that the Public Service Board is holding about Vermont Yankee on Monday, and to call on the board not to issue a certificate of public good for the plant.MORE IN This Just In
