Police: Items taken from construction site
BENNINGTON — The Bennington Police Department is investigating the theft of more than $8,000 in building materials from a Vermont Electric Company construction site.
VELCO is building an electrical substation on a side road which runs along the east side of the new portion of Route 279 and is off Chapel Road in Bennington.
Employees told police they found this week that 186 pieces of threaded rod were missing. Each rod is 1.5 inches in diameter and 60 inches long. The rods are threaded on each end and three nuts and a washer are attached to each galvanized steel rod.
In a press release, police said each rod weighs about 50 pounds and is valued at $45. The total value of the missing rods is $8,370.
The rods were delivered on wood pallets, which were not taken, so police believe each rod was loaded by hand individually, most likely over the last three to four weeks.
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call Officer Lawrence Cole at 442-1030.
