It has been 658 days since Vermonters have seen more than 6 inches of snow fall from one storm and the storm today will continue to fall well into the night, according to meteorologists in Burlington.

Eric Evenson with the National Weather Service said they are expecting the storm to continue to accumulate snow throughout Thursday before tapering off during the morning hours Friday. There might be some snow small showers on Friday, but it will not account to much.

“It started in southern Vermont around midnight (Thursday) and then moved across the state in the evening hours,” he said Thursday morning. “It’s pretty much snowing across Vermont right now. It’s going to continue throughout the day.”

As of 9 a.m., the Northeast Kingdom has accumulated the least amount of snow — about 1.5 inches — but up to 12 inches is expected by the end of the storm. Evenson said the majority of the state has accumulated somewhere between 3 to 7 inches.

Snow reports show about 3 inches in Rutland, 5 inches in Northfield, 6.5 inches in Goshen, 2.9 inches in Hyde Park, 5 inches in Springfield, 5.5 inches in Ludlow and 7.0 inches in Jay Peak.
