The first baby born this year at Rutland Regional Medical Center is Jezzabell Bruso, shown with her mom, Sara Bruso of Rutland.
Rutland Regional Medical Center almost didn’t have a New Year’s baby on Jan. 1 this year, but Jezzabell Bruso arrived just in time at 10:20 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
The parents are Sara Bruso and her fiancé Charles Emery, both of Rutland. Bruso said Jezzabell was her “littlest baby,” weighing in at 6 pounds 4 ounces and measuring 18 inches.
Bruso’s 8-year-old son, James, had a late Christmas gift, too — he’d wished for a baby sister.
“He was excited to have a sister,” Bruso said. “I knew what it was going to be, I knew it was going to be a girl.”
Though Jezzabell was born four days late, Bruso was happy she wasn’t born on Christmas. If she were, Bruso said, her birthday would have been celebrated on a different day.
“It’s not very fair when everyone gets presents on your day,” Bruso said, cradling Jezzabell, who wore a pink and red pajamas with white stars and flowers.
“Any other day but Christmas, right?” Bruso whispered in her daughter’s ear.
Jezzabell was flushed red as she slept, her arms and head making small gestures in her sleep. She also had a nearly full head of dark hair held by a white headband.
“I had a lot of hair when I was born, too,” Bruso said. “That’s probably where she got it.”
Bruso said she had also brought a bunch of headbands and clips, thinking her daughter “better have hair.”
Bruso had originally liked the name Jennabell, but changed it after some research.
“I looked up unique J names on the Internet and found Jessabell,” Bruso said, but she decided she liked it better as Jezzabell.
The happy mother was exhausted Wednesday but said, “It feels good — to have a girl. My mom, she wanted a boy. She had to have six kids before she had a boy.”
By the time Bruso finished speaking, Jezzabell began waking up and making little cries. Bruso was happy to have added to her family.
