    Barbara Belle “Barb” Carlson, 74, died Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at Mountain View Center in Rutland.

    She was born February 11, 1938, in Lynn, MA, the daughter of John D. Allen, Sr. and Eliza Belle (Clark) Allen. Barb attended Lynn (MA) schools and graduated from Lynn English High School in 1956. She continued her education, graduating from Lynn Hospital School of Nursing in 1959.

    She was married to Arthur W. Carlson April 30, 1961. The Carlson’s lived in North Reading, MA, before moving to Braintree, VT, in 1970. After moving to Vermont, Barb worked as a registered nurse at Gifford Memorial Hospital in Randolph. She later worked as the bookkeeper at Randolph Coal & Oil. She had also worked as a seamstress.

    Barb was a member of Green Mountain Gospel Chapel.

    She enjoyed doing crafts, reading, singing and motorcycle riding.

    She is survived by two sons: Scott Carlson of Concord, N.H., and Neil Carlson of Rutland; a daughter Debra Carlson of Rutland; a brother John Allen, Jr. of Lynn, MA; a sister Merlyn Venis of Viginia; and four grandchildren: Scott Carlson, II, Nicholas Carlson, Malori Carlson and Julia Carlson. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband.

    Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Green Mountain Gospel Chapel (Rte. 66) in Randolph, with the Rev. Paul Ciampaglia officiating.

    Calling hours will be Friday evening, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Day Funeral Home, Randolph. Burial will be at a later date in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Randolph Center.
