Michigan skiers lost and found
KILLINGTON — A group of Midwestern skiers needed rescuing after deliberating going off trail Monday afternoon. | January 09,2013
Shortly before 5 p.m., State Police received a 911 call from Brandon Helmrich, 27, of Port Huron, Mich., sying he and four companions were lost in the woods after skiing out of bounds at Killington Resort, according to police.
Police obtained the Helmrich’s GPS coordinates from his cell phone and instructed him and other members of his party to walk back up the hill the way they had come.
Killington Ski Patrol met the group and escorted them out of the woods. None of them sustained injuries. Other skiers in the party included Frank Reid, 47, Jennifer Reid, 18, Nathan Reid, 27, and Stephanie Reid, 20, all of Port Huron, Mich.
Police urged all skiers to stay in bounds and on marked trails this winter.
