CASTLETON — Competitors of all ages will flock to Lake Bomoseen this weekend for the second annual Lakes Region Winter Carnival.
Consisting of family games such as relay races, water-balloon tosses and team sports games, the two-day event highlights the attractions of winter in Vermont.
Participants will compete in teams of three to five members and play for team prizes in each event throughout the two-day carnival.
This year’s competition will include the first Bomoseen Bowl, a trophy presented to the team that accumulates the most points throughout the Winter Carnival games.
The friendly competition will kick off at noon today at the Lake House Pub & Grille, beginning with a snow sculpture contest.
Contenders will craft snow sculptures with the theme “Summer in February,” based on summer activities such as fishing, swimming and water skiing.
The family flags competition will also take place today, when families design their own flags with materials provided by the Lake Bomoseen Association. All flags will be judged and displayed Sunday, the final day of the carnival.
Carnival panel members will separately judge each competition, awarding points to be accumulated toward the Bomoseen Bowl.
The competition continues at noon Sunday at the Lake Bomoseen Country Club with a variety of team games and prizes.
Sleigh rides, fireworks and other family events are also available throughout the carnival.
An awards ceremony will conclude the carnival as the Bomoseen Bowl and other prizes are handed out to carnival winners, with refreshments to follow at the Trak Inn on Route 30.
Fishtail Tavern and the Lake House Pub & Grille will be open for business throughout the carnival.
