Lothrop gets food grant
PITTSFORD ó A local elementary school will receive nearly $5,000 to encourage pupils to eat locally grown food.
The Agency of Education, in collaboration with the Vermont Farm to School Network, awarded nearly $76,000 in grants to eight schools around the state, including $4,490 for Lothrop Elementary School.
Now in its seventh year, the Farm to School Grant Program works to improve childrenís diets by linking local producers and schools. The program encourages schools to engage students in their local food system by incorporating local food and farm education in their cafeterias, classrooms and communities.
