    Ruby B. Gifford

    MESA, Ariz. — Ruby Bernice Gifford, 89, formerly of Rutland and Pownal, Vt., died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at Greenfield House Hospice of Arizona in Mesa.

    She was born in Mechanicsville, N.Y., May 13, 1923, the daughter of Frank and Gladys (Cook) Edmonds.

    She graduated in 1940 from Mechanicsville High School.

    In earlier years, Mrs. Gifford worked at the Berkshire Inn in North Adams, Mass., for several years.

    She was a member of North Adams Methodist Church.

    She enjoyed cooking and reading.

    Survivors include a daughter, Sandy Wooster of Mesa, with whom she resided; three sons, Walter Adams of Bennington, James Gifford Jr. of North Adams and Gary Gifford of Mesa; a sister, Arlene Mulson of North Adams, Mass.; seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

    Mrs. Gifford was predeceased by her husband, James Gifford Sr., in 1982 and two brothers, Melfred and Frank Edmonds.

    A private memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
