    Eulogy for a fallen fighter

As a past fighter, I wish to thank the Garrow family for always allowing their dad to be a coach, teacher, and friend to all of his fighters. We didn’t have money, yet we had dreams. Your dad, free of charge, helped make our dreams become reality. He taught us respect, hard work, and gave us guts through hours of training, sparring each day with his fighters, your father, in his 50s, as we were in our 20s. We laughed together throughout the broken noses, loose teeth, and many falls to the mat.

I remember the chaos in preparing the old blue van for our trips to Burlington, the sometimes silent trips home as we lost, faces swollen, already preparing for the next year.

Thank you, Marie, for the opportunity to say goodbye to my friend and coach minutes before Tom started his new life.

    God bless you.
