Danby approves budgets, elects officers
to Danby’s board
DANBY — Voters approved municipal and school budgets and elected a slate of officers in contested races.
The $1,100,608 municipal budget was approved by a 244-175 vote. The $1,693,844 elementary school budget passed by a 220-204 margin and the $2,100,625 budget for secondary education expenses was approved, 220-209.
Dan Garceau beat out Steve Haines for a three-year seat on the town’s Select Board, 271-160.
In a two-way race for the delinquent tax collector post, incumbent Dorothea Edmunds topped challenger Cher Powers 238-191.
In the only other contested race, incumbent Marge Abbott lost to Richard Smith for a three-year auditor position, 251-181.
Voters approved a request for the town to allocate $25,000 a year for the next eight years for the purchase of a new fire truck for the Danby-Mount Tabor Volunteer Fire Department, 267-153.
Townspeople voted in favor of rehabilitation and relocation options for the town offices, 231-194.
