    Herbert Hoover will always be remembered for presiding over the stock market crash of 1929 and the resulting Great Depression.

    What is not as well known is his philanthropic work. Herbert Hoover donated his entire salary to charity. He previously had refused to accept payment when he served as U.S. food administrator and commerce secretary.
