Campaigning is a tough business, not for the faint of heart. Neither is serving on the board. When I started my run for alderman at the end of November, I had no idea that our aldermen put in such long hours serving their community. The regular bi-monthly meetings that I attended to learn the ropes are what you see on PEG-TV, but then there are the numerous committee meetings and homework studying proposals and requests. So I wish to thank our aldermen for their dedication to the betterment of Rutland.

I also wish to thank those who were so kind in helping me run my campaign. You were generous with your donations of funds, your time, your lawns for signs, and your encouragement. I will not forget your generosity.

Last, I was happy to go door to door to meet many Rutlanders who were so polite and friendly. It was good to get to know residents of all the wards of the city and hear your concerns. Being able to register a few of you to vote, to help you get your mail-in ballots or to get you a ride to the polls was gratifying for me.

My congratulations to the other board members re-elected to the board, incumbents and returners alike. Please continue to serve our fine city well.

    DIANE ALBERTS
