After much discussion and consideration, the Springfield Family Center board of directors has made the decision to place our facility, White Acres at 365 Summer Street, on the market for sale.

There are many factors that go into this decision, and it does not come lightly.

Economic times have remained difficult for our country, and our community is no different. The services demanded of the Springfield Family Center in light of these conditions continue to grow. The facility is large, beyond our needs, efforts to rent additional space have turned up empty, and we are looking at the decision from a long-term sustainability perspective.

We want to be clear that the Springfield Family Center has no intentions of ceasing to provide the programs and services that we have been providing the residents of Springfield for the past 42 years. If the property is sold, we will be seeking an alternative location to ensure that the same services we provide today would continue to be provided.

We appreciate the continued support and generosity of our neighbors and hope that everyone is able to understand our reasons and will continue to support us as we work through any transitions moving forward. Simply, we feel we are putting far too much into building operation and upkeep and feel funds could be better utilized to help us address the continually growing needs of our community.

As any changes occur it is important to us that we keep the community included in our plans.

    (executive director,

    Springfield Family Center)
