    Debra J. Russell-Sanborn

    SUDBURY — Debra Joyce Russell-Sanborn passed away April 28, 2013, at the age of 59. She was at her family farmhouse in Sudbury, surrounded by family, when she ended her courageous battle against cancer.

    Debra was born March 11, 1954, in the Camp LeJeune Naval Hospital, North Carolina, and grew up at the farm in Sudbury, Vt. For the past eight years, she and her family have been living at Maidstone Lake in Maidstone, Vt.

    She is survived by her husband Steve Sanborn, and daughters Kaley and Naya Sanborn. Also, her brothers Phillip “Ted” and Mark Russell, and sisters Sherry Williams and Nicole Fatato, her father Phillip Edward Russell, as well as many in-laws, cousins and dear friends who cherished her. She was predeceased by her mother Marjorie Ellen (Barber) Russell.

    Debra attended Otter Valley Union High School in Brandon, and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Vermont. She also studied at the New York City Teachers College and did graduate work for her librarian’s degree at Plymouth State University.

    Debra was a gifted primary school teacher and taught in Long Island, at the Westford Elementary School, the Essex Town School, the Granby schools, and Stratford Elementary School in New Hampshire. She was also the school librarian at Stratford. She will be remembered by countless young children she taught and loved.

    Debra was an avid environmentalist, enjoyed gardening and cooking, loved to read and research, hiked, skied, biked and quilted. She was very proud of her children and her accomplishments as a mother and teacher.

    Funeral services and a celebration of Debra’s life will be held at the Sudbury Town Church on Friday, May 10, 2013, at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow.

    In lieu of flowers, anyone who wishes to honor her memory can make donations to either the Addison County Home Health & Hospice at P.O. Box 754, Middlebury VT 05753; or the Hope Lodge, care of the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
