Wish for choice at end of life
Wish for choice
at end of life
My late wife did not have a choice. She died an inhuman, painful, undignified death after a 13-year fight with breast cancer. At her request, I had to stop food and water after she was put on a narcotic drip to alleviate excruciating pain from seven brain tumors.
She had all the medicines, medical procedures and care from doctors, nurses, hospice, family and friends that were available. In the end it just comes down to what the individual patient wants. The care providers have to let go, theyíve done their work. Thank you.
Over the 13 years I saw my wifeís body self destruct bit by bit without her permission. This is the dying process of a terminally ill patient, not suicide. So call it what it is, purely a death process. We provide a better end for our pets than we allow for ourselves.
I would like to see the Vermont Legislators approve the ď patientís end of life choice billĒ for the terminally ill with standards and safeguards. I would like to have a choice. I have cancer. If it is a personal choice for you, why canít it be a personal choice for me?
