WEATHERSFIELD — Officials in a Vermont town had to scrap plans to dedicate their new fire engine — they needed it to fight a fire.

The new No. 4 pumper was delivered to the Ascutney fire station Wednesday with plans for a dedication. But within a few hours of the delivery, the fire department needed it for a house fire in Perkinsville that left several animals dead.

Ascutney Fire Chief Darrin Spaulding told the Eagle-Times the truck did an excellent job on its first call.

    A dedication was held Thursday.
