MANCHESTER CENTER — Theodore R. “Ted” Kilburn, 89, a resident of Lorette Avenue in Manchester Center, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Ted was born in Manchester Depot, the son of Theodore and Cora (Woodard) Kilburn.
Ted married Edith Bushee over seventy years ago.
He graduated from Burr and Burton Seminary. He furthered his education at GE Toolmaker Apprenticeship and ASTP and Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh, PA.
Ted worked for IBM for over thirty years, retiring as a Production Engineer from the Kingston, New York, plant. While at IBM, he travelled all over the United States and the world including Japan, England and Sweden.
Ted was a WWII United States Army veteran and was a member of the 94th Infantry Division in New York State.
He was a charter member of the Harned-Fowler VFW Post 6741 in Manchester, and was a life member of the American Legion. For over twenty-five years, he was the treasurer of the Glasco Gun Club. He also served as Secretary of the New York State Conservation Council. Ted was also a member of the Sudbury Planning Board.
He enjoyed woodworking, remodeled his home and built the lake house on Lake Hortonia in Sudbury, residing there with his wife, Edith. Ted enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and tending to his fruit trees. He even made his own Italian sausage and bologna. Ted’s true passion was his family. He was always very involved in his children’s activities including hunting, Little League baseball, Boy Scouts and 4-H.
Ted is survived by his wife, Edith; his children, Douglas Kilburn and his wife Cynthia of Manchester Center, Vermont, Donald Kilburn and his wife Lynn of Highland, New York, Darlene Marcotte of Palm Bay, Florida, Daniel Kilburn and his wife Maisie of Manchester Center, Vermont, and Debra Kilburn and Karl Herbst of Wynantskill, New York; his grandchildren, Heather Beaudry, David Kilburn, Costandinos Georgiou and Dakota “Cody” Kilburn; and his great-grandchild, Tucker Daniel Kilburn; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. His parents, his four siblings and his sons-in-law, Christofis Georgiou and Karl Marcotte, predeceased him.
A Catholic Mass with military honors for Ted will be celebrated Thursday, May 30, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Manchester. Interment will follow in the family lot in Dellwood Cemetery in Manchester Village.
The family will have visiting hours to be held Wednesday, May 29, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Brewster & Shea Funeral Service, 34 Park Place, Manchester Center, Vermont.
