BRANDON – Town residents will go back to the polls next month to vote on a newly reduced municipal budget for the fourth time.

The Brandon Select Board approved Monday night a budget of $3,147,634 of which $2,331,134 will be raised by taxes.

This proposed budget represents an increase of $41,734 or 1.34 percent from this year's budget of $3,105,900.

For the amount raised by taxes, the new proposed budget represents an increase of $84,084 or 3.74 percent, to this year's amount raised by taxes of $2,247,050.

This budget does not include the already resident-approved appropriations totaling $74,235.

This will be the fourth time residents go to the polls to vote on the budget. At Town Meeting Day, voters approved – by eight votes – a proposed budget of $3,292,280 of which $2,480,080 would be raised by taxes.

This proposal, which represented an increase of $233,030 or 10.3 percent of what would be raised by taxes, was put on the ballot a month later. Voters easily defeated the budget forcing town officials to start trimming proposed costs.

Earlier this month, town officials presented voters with a budget of $3,201,842, of which $2,385,642 would be raised by taxes. It represented a total increase of $95,942 or 3.09 percent of this year's budget or a $138,592 or 6.16 percent increase in what would be raised by taxes.

Residents will vote on the new proposed budget from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 9 at the Neshobe Elementary School. An informational meeting will be held on July 8.
