MONTPELIER — Opponents of a plan that could bring F-35 fighter planes to Vermont are going to be demonstrating what they say is just how loud the planes are.

On Tuesday they are planning to play recordings of the planes taking off in both Burlington and Montpelier, amplified to 115 decibels.

Organizers say the 115 decibel level is the maximum sound the F-35s would make on takeoff.

The Air Force is considering basing 18 to 24 of the planes with the Vermont Air National Guard at the Burlington International Airport in South Burlington.

Opponents say the planes are too loud.

The guard says the planes can be flown in a way that minimizes the noise and they would only fly a few minutes a day a few days a week.
